昨天学习了关于besides的用法，besides有除……以外的意思，今天来学习except以及but的用法，它们同样也可以表示除……以外，他们又有什么不同呢？
（1）except和but与all连用
All succeeded except him. 除了他，所有人都成功了。（当except放在句首时，应该改写为except for him）
She was the last but one to arrive. 她是倒数第二个到达的。
（2）当与that引出的宾语从句中使用时，常使用except而不是but
He didn’t know where the club was, except that it was near the railway station. 他不知道这个俱乐部在哪里，只知道它在火车站附近。
（3）except后不跟形容词，but可以
His work is anything but excellent. 他的工作一点也不好。
（4）but的固定搭配，不能用except
He is nothing but a teacher. 他只是一名教师。（nothing but是固定搭配）
（5）but与except可替换的情况
①There is nothing on the table but a credit card. 桌上除了一张信用卡以外没有其他东西。（句子中有nothing时，but可以用except或besides代替）
②It is too late. We have no choice but to stay here. 太晚了，我们别无选择，只有待在这里。（否定句中可以用except代替but）
